- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup Greek yogurt (full-fat)
- 1 medium cucumber (grated)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 4 pitas
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- ½ cup sliced red onion
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken by combining it with olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
- For tzatziki sauce, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber (drained), minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a separate bowl. Chill until ready to serve.
- Preheat the grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook marinated chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Allow chicken to rest for a few minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
- Assemble gyros by placing sliced chicken on warm pita bread, then adding tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, and red onions.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For better flavor, you can marinate the chicken overnight.
- Make sure to drain the grated cucumber well to avoid a watery tzatziki.
