Description
Delicious and fun puff pastry trees made with basil pesto and cheese!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet Puff Pastry (Thawed)
- 1/2 cup Basil Pesto (Drained of excess oil)
- 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (Or Pecorino Romano or dairy-free alternative)
- 1 large Egg (Beaten)
- 2 tablespoons Sesame Seeds (Optional)
- 1 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper (Adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unfold the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface. Roll it to an even thickness, about 1/8 inch, and then spread the basil pesto evenly across the pastry.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese generously over the pesto layer.
- Fold the pastry in half lengthwise to lock in those fillings. Cut the pastry into strips that are about ½ inch wide.
- Twist each strip to form spirals and shape them into little trees on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush each tree with the beaten egg. If desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds or crushed red pepper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Cool the trees slightly before serving.
Notes
- These trees can be served as an appetizer or a fun party snack!
- Feel free to experiment with different cheeses or pesto flavors.
