Key Ingredients for Cranberry Brie Bites

Cranberry Brie Bites are the perfect festive appetizer that brings together sweet, savory, and creamy flavors. Let me take you through the essential ingredients that make this dish truly delightful.

  • Puff Pastry: This is the versatile base for our bites. I always opt for store-bought puff pastry because it saves time and delivers that flaky, buttery goodness without the fuss of making it from scratch. Make sure to thaw it properly to achieve the best texture!

  • Brie Cheese: The star of the show! I always choose a good-quality Brie for its rich creaminess that pairs beautifully with the tartness of cranberries. When you slice into the baked bites, the melted Brie is what makes each bite utterly indulgent.

  • Cranberry Sauce: You can use homemade or store-bought cranberry sauce. Its sweet-tart profile adds a burst of flavor that complements the Brie perfectly. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider using a whole berry version for added texture.

  • Fresh Rosemary: A sprinkle of chopped fresh rosemary elevates the dish with its aromatic flavor. It’s surprising how a little herb can enhance the overall taste, adding depth to those delightful Cranberry Brie Bites!

  • Egg Wash: Brushing your pastries with an egg wash before baking creates a gorgeous golden color and a beautiful shine. It’s the finishing touch that makes your bites feel gourmet.

These ingredients come together in a magical way, ensuring your guests will be reaching for seconds!

Tips for Perfect Cranberry Brie Bites

Creating Cranberry Brie Bites is like wrapping your taste buds in a warm hug — a delightful combination of sweet, savory, and creamy goodness. To make sure your bite-sized treats turn out just right, here are some essential tips:

Choose the Right Puff Pastry

For the best texture and flakiness, opt for high-quality, frozen puff pastry. Make sure to thaw it fully before rolling it out, and avoid over-handling to keep those flaky layers intact.

Perfectly Portion the Brie

Cut your Brie into small, even cubes to ensure consistency in flavor and melting. Aim for about one ounce per bite. This will allow the cheese to melt beautifully without overwhelming the pastry.

Balance the Sweetness and Savory

While Cranberry Brie Bites are inherently decadent, the balance is crucial. If your cranberry sauce is sweet, consider adding a sprinkle of sea salt or chopped fresh herbs like rosemary to add depth to the flavor.

Keep an Eye on Baking Time

Overbaking can turn your bites from golden and flaky to dry and tough. Bake until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, usually taking around 15-20 minutes. Every oven is different, so keep a close watch!

By following these tips, your Cranberry Brie Bites will be a hit at your next gathering, turning every bite into an invitation to indulge!

Description

Delicious mini puff pastry bites filled with brie cheese, walnuts, and cranberry sauce, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry dough, thawed
  • 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • pinch cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 1 8 ounce brie cheese wheel
  • 1 cup cranberry sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F.
  2. Sit out the puff pastry to thaw and stick the brie wheel in the freezer to get really cold, but not completely frozen.
  3. Heat a small nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the walnuts, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Stir frequently making sure the nuts and sugar do not burn. The sugar will melt and coat the walnuts in just a couple minutes. Remove from heat and spread out on a plate to cool.
  4. Place the thawed puff pastry sheet on a clean work surface and using a rolling pin, roll into a 10×14 inch rectangle. Cut the puff pastry into 24 squares.
  5. Spray a mini muffin tin with cooking spray. Press the squares into each hole of the muffin tin.
  6. Cut the chilled brie into 24 inch cubes and place the brie cubes in the puff pastry.
  7. Add a spoonful of cranberry sauce on top of the brie.
  8. Place the muffin tin in the oven for 18-20 minutes. The cheese and cranberry may bubble over a little but you can use a spoon to push it back into the puff pastry.
  9. Carefully remove from the muffin tin and arrange on a serving platter. Garnish with candied walnuts.

Notes

  • Make sure to keep an eye on the walnuts while toasting to prevent burning.
  • For extra sweetness, feel free to add more brown sugar to the walnut mixture.
